Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 June 2026

Beer Me (operated by DMCStack) helps you find well-priced beer nearby. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have. We comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

What we collect

Account details — name, email address, and optionally a phone number, avatar photo, bio and favourite beer types.

Date of birth — collected once to verify you are 18 or older, as Beer Me relates to alcohol. Your date of birth is never shown to other users.

Prices, check-ins and scans — price reports you submit, pubs you check in to, and photos of drink menus you scan. Scanned menu images are processed by AI to extract drinks and prices, and are retained in a private bucket to improve our scanning models. Don't include people in menu photos.

Mates and messages — your friend code, your mates list, direct and group messages, shouts, and tour invitations.

Location — your device location is used to show nearby pubs and deals. It is not stored, with two exceptions you control:

  • Discoverable (off by default): lets nearby mates see you're around.
  • Tour location sharing (off by default, per tour): before sharing you choose a duration (maximum 12 hours) and update frequency (no more often than every 10 minutes). Your position is visible only to participants of that tour, goes stale and disappears after an hour without updates, and is deleted immediately when you turn sharing off, leave the tour, or the tour ends.

Push tokens and device info — so notifications reach your device, and basic device/OS details when the app reports a crash.

How we use it

  • Showing you pubs, prices and deals near you
  • Powering mates, chat, shouts, tours and notifications
  • Improving menu-scanning AI using scanned images
  • Keeping the community honest (e.g. detecting fake price reports)
  • Fixing crashes and improving the app

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising. Venue promotions you see in Beer Me are paid placements by venues, not targeting based on your personal data.

Who we share with

  • Service providers — our infrastructure runs on Amazon Web Services; push notifications go through Apple and Google; payments for merch and venue placements are processed by Stripe (we never see your full card number); menu-scan AI processing uses Google's Gemini API.
  • Your mates — only what's social by design: your name, avatar, favourite beers, shouts, tour activity, and location only under the tour rules above.
  • Nobody else, unless the law requires it.

Your rights

  • Access & correction — your profile is editable in the app; for anything else email us.
  • Deletion — Profile → Settings → Delete Account permanently removes your account and personal data. Anonymous community contributions (like price reports) are retained but unlinked.
  • Notifications — opt out anytime in your device settings.
  • Complaints — contact us first; if unhappy with our response you can complain to the OAIC (oaic.gov.au).

Data security & retention

Data is encrypted in transit, stored in access-controlled systems, and kept only as long as needed for the purposes above. Stale push tokens and expired tour locations are cleaned up automatically.
